Civil War in the USA

*The first were imported to the U.S from Africa as early as in the 1660s, but slavery gradually became a mayor political and economic issue, as free work force was necessary to sustain the South's economy.

*In 1860,11 Southern States (Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississipi, Albama, Tenessee, Florida, South Cardina, North California and Georgia)decided to become independantand form a confederation. The North refused this separation and it was the begenning of the Civil War wich ended in 1865 with the victory of the North.Consequently, slavery was abolished then.
